Nigeria VS Ivory Coast: Preview (Eagles On A Revenge Mission)
Two years ago this two teams met in the quarter finals and though a very high standard game it was, only was goal was scored which was what separated the two. Ivory Coast won with a controversial goal from Didier Drogba which many thought was offside. As controversial as it was, it definitely passed for a beautiful goal.
This afternoon in Sekondi the teams will be locking horns again this time early in the group and certainly both teams are happy to be meeting each other now hoping they wouldn’t be meeting again until maybe in the semis or final.
How is today’s is encounter likely to turn out? Yesterday we saw Guinea put up a spirited display against Ghana and Ghana’s opening day game was only recued by a last minute heroics froms Suleiman Muntari who finished off a neat pass from Michael Essien with a Volley right into the far post. The Guinean Goal Keeper who has been unbelievably fantastic all evening couldn’t help this one and Ghana ran away with maximum 3 points. It was all they had wished for before President John Kuffor and a chanting 40,000 fans.
When two big teams file out against one another, one should usually expect a boring game because they seem to respect themselves too much. But the Super Eagles have never been known to play such. Our games have also been the very entertaining type. The players even said they will play Arsenal FC’s kind of football and I believe them. On the part of the Ivoirians, we expect them to be more direct especially with strikers like Didier and Solomon Kalou and are more likely to be silent and wait for the Super Eagles to slip up or maybe catch us on the break with a fast counter attack. I know they can do that.
However the Eagles wouldn’t just be entertaining today as we also possess the ability to be direct as well as entertaining. After the shock defeat in last edition, the team will surely be out to take their own pound of flesh. I believe the Super Eagles have got everything to win today’s match. We have to note that in many years, this seems like one of our best preparation for a major tournament. If the spirit in Camp is anything to go by, the Ivoirians will sure be a hard nut to crack but will be cracked. I will be back here after the game after what I said has happened. Go great super eagles.
