What Just Happened in Maputo?
The Mambas showed up to win and the Eagles didn’t. Coupled with Tunisia’s fantastic result in Nairobi, the picture isn’t looking too good. Personally, I was hoping we would rack up goals against Kenya and Mozambique in the event that we got held to a draw by the Carthage Eagles, and thus advance on points. That scenario just went down the drain, and our chances of topping Group B has diminished significantly.
UPDATE: There are some who will maintain that we didn’t lose to Mozambique. I beg to differ. A draw (due to disallowed goals) is an effective loss.

Football is played on the pitch and not in the media. One or two “unknown” african teams will make it to South Africa.
A disallowed “goal” is not a goal.

I have my fears whichever way of Nigeria not making it to the World Cup due to non-qualification.
Terrible to imagine, but my fears simply. Hope to God, I am wrong.

Scouser, I agree with you technically. I just meant that drawing with a team you’re “supposed” to beat might as well count as a loss.
Ren, I am hoping and praying with you. To miss out on South Africa would be too painful.

i am passionately in love with Nigerian football, but the bitter truth is that we didnt perform against the mambas.
excuse may be given for our poor performance, like the artificial pitch, but the Super Eagles must accept the fact that they played so woefully against mozambique.
they must work hard to get any chance of qualifying for SA 2010.
